Mom is getting worse. She literally cannot remember five minutes ago that she ate. She can't sit still, fidgeting and up constantly.

You just described about a quarter of  the people in the memory care that my parents stay in.  There are people there who have been in a similar state for many years.  Sounds like she needs more custodial type care instead of medical care.. unless there is something else going on.

Usually, people receive Hospice Care when their medical professionals believe they have six months or less to live. It doesn’t sound like Mom is exhibiting those signs.

Has she been been diagnosed with dementia? If so,she will only get worse, unfortunately. Even if you don’t want to place her immediately, it’s not a bad idea to get all your ducks in a row before it becomes absolutely necessary. If she needs someone as POA, see a lawyer and appoint someone. File for Medicaid for her if necessary. It’s always a good idea to have a plan.

When you decide to put her in a facility is a personal choice. But please don’t wait until you’re burned out, stressed out and angry. That’s not good for anybody.

You can request Hospice to come out and evaluate her. Or talk to them on the telephone first. My mother also has dementia but she sure still knows who I am!!
