My mother needs assisted living, but is resistant and stubborn. What options do I have since I am not in a position to become her nurse?

She is not mobile and does not make an effort to maintain her ability to walk. She has a walker which works for her, but she still will not take 30 steps outside to pick up her mail or throw her garbage out. Even inside her apartment, she stays mostly in bed. She is not using her leg muscles.

She will not throw her depends in the outside garbage but keeps them after use in plastic garbage bags laying around her apartment. There were dozens in her apartment, which smelled accordingly, when we packed her up to move her to Reno.

She has money, but refuses to spend any to improve her quality of life with some assistance because she is too cheap.

D; You might want to call Adult Protective Services as well and report her as a vulnerable adult.

She will fall. She will go to the hospital. You will tell discharge that she lives alone with no help. Insist that they find her a facility.

But Shad living with human waste piling up is unsafe, content or not.

Oy.

She's lives in Reno, in an apartment? with you? What is her living situation?

She clearly needs a higher level of care.

Have you been in touch with the local Area Agency on Aging?

She insisted on living in an apartment.

Yes, she does need a higher level of care, but doesn't want to pay for it- yet
she does have the money.

At the point where some sort of intervention is needed, but not sure what we could possible force her to do if she is not willing.

No, havent tried the Area Agency on Aging - not sure what kind of help they could provide ...

thanks for your comment
