Would taking my husband's name off of the deed protect my home from liens from outstanding bills incurred during his decline?

He canceled his life insurance so I will have nothing to fall back on when he dies. I am trying to protect my home so that when the time comes to sell I will get some profit. I'm 67 years old and I would like to retire someday.

I'm very sorry to read on your profile of the stressful situation you're in.

I agree with Glad that you must get professional help with planning your future finances. Apart from anything else, just think how much greater your peace of mind will be once you have real certainty about where you stand.

How long ago did your husband cancel his life insurance policy, and what was his state of mind when he did this? If it was recent and/or he was seriously ill, I'm wondering if there might be any way of reinstating it. Not hopeful, but it can't hurt to ask.

No, you need an elder law attorney to assist. Laws are so different in states you need someone that has expertise in your area. You can usually get a free 30 minute telephone consult with most.
