Just find foods she loved, make them into puree. Cake, ice cream, favorite meals all can use thick it, be open even if it seems unhealthy, why at this point any food is bad, give her what is bad for her, why hold back now. I tried to be all that but if she wants something why not now. Be open it took me years to let go now aid has her. I can now enjoy her as she is for as long as she is. I have my mom. Dementia takes many forms, my mom is a sweet lady. I know others face the anger and strife. So asking us to unite in a community of mutual understanding, not sure forum yet but if you agree, call for it.
Try some thing she loved, puree it but it will still taste the same I did tramasi dessert her favorite, puree, because she can't chew anymore, but she loved it. It is hard when can eat or chew, puree pot pies, meatballs with gravy or sauce.
So very sorry for your loss. Happy Birthday to your Mom on Friday! She had already lived her 83 years out. So she gets the credit due her years. What a lovely outlook to celebrate her on her birthday.
This was hard on you, and scary, I am sure. Now that you have reached out, allow others on here who have been where you are today love and support you during this difficult time.
My mom passed yesterday late morning. All of you were so right. She wanted to go and she was tired of all the pain. So she took her last breath and she was gone. We are going to celebrate her birthday fri.
She is old, in pain most of the time, and almost immobile. If she thinks she's had enough, don't be afraid. It's a reasonable decision from the sound of it. Stopping eating is one of the ways to go. Just give her lots of love.
Very true, it sounds like she may want to go be with the Lord. When my grandma had a stroke & woke up in the hospital, she "cussed my mother out", for bringing her to the hospital! That was in the 1960's, but I still respect people's right to die without extreme 'medical' intervention. Peace to your family,✌.
How long has this been going on? Is she taking in fluids? Has any of mom's medications change? Has something major happen? What is being done about her glucose (sugar) level? Can you tell me what is her glucose number is? When did she fracture her 2,3 vertebras? How is her pain being manage?
Have you tried to give her one of her favorite foods? Maybe make one of her favorite meals?
