River, when you go into a NH with Medicaid paying for your care it also becomes your health insurance. If you had a supplimental before, this can be dropped because Medicaid pays for everything.
This wasn't my question but now I am confused. If one has to go to Medicaid in the future what happens with the present secondary insurance? Presently the secondary is after Medicare. Probably a stupid question but I have a head cold and can't focus well
Are you on Medicaid for just health insurance? or longterm care?
If for health insurance then Medicaid should become your secondary. Medicare only pays 80% of what they consider reasonable so you need a supplimental. If on health insurance there is no spend down. Not in NJ anyway. Medicaid pays for dental and glasses which Medicare does not. Buying a house depends on your income which is low if on Medicaid.
