Best medication for constant crying?

My 92-year-old mom has significant dementia. Very upset about needing personal care on rear end to prevent bedsores. Also very frustrated by what she cannot do. Now taking zoloft and trazadone to help with anxiety and depression. Any suggestions for a medication to help with the crying and fearful thoughts? Right now she is miserable despite the great care and support she is getting at home.

I'm so sorry this problem is continuing! For me, it was unbearable to watch my mother be in psychic pain. Definitely time to call in the psych experts, I think.

My best to you!

Thanks, Barb. I know this is a hard question to answer. Sh has been on both meds for quite awhile. She has an appointment with her regular doctor on Wednesday. Meantime, he has said to cut her daily Zoloft in half. Home care nurse has also suggested it might be time for the geriatric psych service to step in. We are hanging in till Wednesday. WIll see what the doctor says and go from there.

Are the meds being prescribed by a geriatric psych doc or APRN? Are you in touch with prescriber about the fact that mom is weeping?

Zoloft takes several weeks to kick in.

Make sure you only start one med at a time so you can monitor side effects.
