My mom just starts crying and acting like she is in pain. Is this a sign of dementia?

Mom starts crying out of the blue and acts as if she is in pain but can't tell me what or where it hurts. This goes on for almost an hour and when it's over she doesn't remember a thing. She had a stroke six months ago. Is this a sign of dementia? What can I do?
