My daughter works in rehab. Because of changes in Medicare, they are getting patients up early so they can get them ready for Therapy that starts at 8.
Mkconnolly, I don't believe there is a "law" that states what time a person can be awakened.
When I worked night shift in the hospital (11:00 pm to 7:30 am), we would have to start waking our patients at 5:00 am so we could get vital signs, give meds, give treatments, start baths, assist to bathroom, finish charting and give report to the next shift by 7:30 am. (Only 2-1/2 hours to complete all that.) We were jammin'!
4 am seems awfully early but what time do the patients go to bed? At my mom's memory care, they put them to bed after dinner (6:30-7 pm). So waking them at 4 am would still give them 9-1/2 sleep. It's hard when you have a lot of people to care for. They should be rotating who has to be the first to wake up so everyone can take their turn. It's not nice but the work has to be done.
mkconnolly, sorry I can't understand your question. Please give us more information about why you are being awaken at 4 a.m. I see you are a CNA, are you working the night shift prior to shift change?
Are there are lot of residents that need to be getting ready for the morning, thus the reason why the first ones are awaken at 4 a.m.?
