An 83-year-old is taking care of his wife with Alzheimer's. He was paying out of pocket for help. Does Medicare/Medicaid help with this?

I'm not sure if they are on Medicaid or not. I do know he needs help with household chores and assistance getting her to appointments. Previously he was paying someone out of pocket to come in and help with daily care but son has POA and had them prepay their funeral expenses. Now he doesn't have the extra cash to pay for help.

POA is subservient. It doesn't allow for anything against someone's wishes unless they are incompetent. If he didn't want to prepay, he didn't have to.

Medicare is health insurance and doesn't pay for caregivers.

Medicaid does have Homecare help. You may want to start there. Call your local Office of Aging too. Ask about a bus or other transportation options.
