How can I learn to trust a new caregiver when my trust has been shattered by previous betrayals?

I have trust issues and worry about bringing strangers into my home to look after mom so I can escape for a few hours a week? I wonder if anyone else has felt this way and how they resolved this issue? I really don't want to be worried that mom could be abused or the house cleaned out when I return home. It kind of takes the joy out of going out and to be relaxed in order to resume my responsibilities. Thank you.

Go through a reputable agency where the caregivers are subjected to background checks, fingerprinted, are required to take continuing education/training classes and are bonded and insured. If you’ve previously hired caregivers through a newspaper or online ad and they weren’t thoroughly checked out, that could be why you feel betrayed.
