I have seen the assistive listening devices advertised. You may want to do a search for assistive listening devices. Some have a separate volume control so others can listen at normal volumes and the patient has a separate volume control for them selves. Harris communication would be a good pace to start.
I see by your profile Mom is 88. Very hard for the elderly to except hearing aids at this point. They aren't elderly friendly. With Dementia its hard to follow directions when taking the hearing test and being fitted for the aid.
Seems Mom has a site problem so close caption maybe out of the picture. There is something called TV ears. Its a wireless headphone. The small base is plugged into the TV. The headphone is like a headband so very light. You could also use regular headphones but they maybe a little bulky.
There are hearing aids you can just buy without the hassle of going to a doctor. If all she needs is volume, this may work.

We are at a catch 22 ... tv has to be extremely loud for her to hear it ... she gets tire of me not being able to hear her ... I get frustrated having to yell my response 😢 AgingCare has been my go to for all questions relating to Mom’s health. So glad I found it.
The Pocketalker® by Williams Sound was recommended to me by a local hearing aide technician - in the end I didn't follow with getting it through though.
Didn't realize they still made something like this. My husband used something similar between hearing aids. His insurance paid for an aid every 3 yrs. The in the ear would short out on him before the 3 yrs so he would look for alternatives until he could get a new one.
