I need to know how to claim caregiver expenses on our tax return.
Since I’m still working John needs someone at home with him. He was in a hospital bed and unable to get up by himself through July. Doing our taxes but can’t figure out where to add that expense.
it used to be that it wasn’t eligible to be deducted until it reached min. of 20% the gross income. That might have changed with the “tax break” (I say the jokingly) of 2018.
But...he loses the standard deduction if he itemizes...so, run the numbers both ways.
oh...and he has to issue a 1099 or have the invoices to prove the expenses.
