Medicare will pay for respite if mom is on hospice.

Medicare does not pay for respite care. That would be private pay.

I think you need to talk to someone in your doctors office who can get a Social Worker to help you. Or call your Office of Aging. You may have a long cooperation period and will not be able to handle Moms care too.

If all Mom receives is SS and has no assets ( other than a house/car), then you may be able to get her into LTC with Medicaid paying. Let the LTC be payee for Moms SS and any pension. All her needs will be taken care of. Meals, care, laundry, diapers. Meds, toiletries, etc. You can just worry about healing. When all is said and done, she can stay where she is and you can have a life.

Please return and tell us how things went.
