Love to know where he got this info. You can stay in your home. If Medicaid is just for healthcare or homecare, you r allowed a certain amount of money in the bank. If you need something done to your house, you can talk to Medicaid and ask if its OK to use the money in r acct. Really, if ur roof is leaking or the plumbing its logical it needs to be fixed. Now, if ur looking to remodel, that probably not be allowed.
When my Aunt was getting Medicaid healthcare she was allowed 1500 in her bank account. (This was 50 yrs ago) She used $500 to fix her car. Medicaid asked her what happened to the money, she explained. She was told the next time she needed to withdrawl money to contact them.
I don't think it's true that you must live in subsidized housing. What _is_ true is that there are income and asset limits, which means you probably can't save up for any maintenance that a house may need, like replacing the roof or air conditioner.
Even if you own the home, it is not free to live there. Taxes must be paid, and it seems like there is always something to repair or replace! Is it possible that your son sees expenses coming soon that you will not be able to afford, and is suggesting a move to somewhere cheaper?
The only correlation I could see between the two is that you need to be low income to qualify for subsidized housing and also to qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid doesn’t look at where you live. It looks at how much you have...or don’t.
