Hope, what your Mom is doing is common with someone who has dementia [depending on the stage].
My Dad would cover up the fact that his memory was slipping more than usual, that it took me by surprise when the Staff at where he lived said it was time to move to Memory Care. I still find it so fascinating that a person with dementia can do that.
Eventually I saw a pattern where Dad would get into his time machine and be transported back to the 1940's.... [sigh]. Must admit, the conversations were interesting.
