Need info on volunteers for home improvement project for a live alone elderly person.
This would be in the Jennings Louisiana area! This elderly persons' roof is leaking bad. She can't sleep in her bedroom any more because it leaks right over her bed. Any help would be appreciated.
I just mentioned this in response to one of the other posters here, but will post it again so it's easier to find. Another source for help for lower income seniors is community action agencies. They sometimes have funds to do home repairs to allow lower income seniors to remain in their homes. They also are involved with low income housing. I just checked online and the agency serving Jennnings, LA is called ASSIST Agency, Inc. https://www.assistagency.org/services.html If they can't provide the service, or can't do it right away, they would be a good resource to contact to see who might be able to help.
I second the advice to reach out to local churches and non-profits. However... the organizations near me do things like adding ramps for accessibility and repairing porch railings. Roof repair is rather dangerous and may be beyond what volunteers are able to handle.
If she and her family cannot afford to maintain a house it may be time to sell it as-is and relocate somewhere she won't be responsible for upkeep.
We r a forum of Caregivers from all over the US, Canada, UK and other countries. We may have someone from ur area, but they are busy caring for someone.
I would suggest u reach out to the Churches in your area. But, be aware of liability using volunteers. I doubt the woman has homeowners if she can't afford a roof.
I don't think the OP is asking for volunteer help from caregivers in this forum--just asking for ideas about how to get volunteers, and giving the area where they live might be helpful for respondents in the advice they give. As well as groups already suggested, I beieve some of the frateral organizations (e.g. Lions clubs, etc.) sometimes do volunteer projects to assit the elderly. Another option is the local community action agency. They have federal funding to help those in need, and some of that is directed toward home repairs and modiciations to allow seniors to stay in their homes. I just looked online and found the agency tat serves Jennings, LA. https://www.assistagency.org/services.html
