Can my mother, 90 qualify for Medicaid? She gets SS benefits of $1477 in FL. She has no assets, she's been with me for 18 years.
She has Dementia/Alzheimer's, Diabetic, CFG, and DVT. I pay for a caregiver (7 years now) out of pocket M-F during the day, but I just can't afford to keep this up. Diapers, pads, supplies, etc are all out of pocket.
In California you might still be able to get medi-cal (medicaid) with a Share of Cost meaning if you make more than the limit, you have to pay out of pocket the amount that you make over the monthly limit every month towards care before medi-cal will pay each month. It will still help
It sounds to me you need to get her placed in a long term facility, then Medicaid will kick in. Unfortunately that may be your best option financially.
For regular Medicaid in Florida the income limit is $891. The limit is higher if you need nursing home care. So if your mom lives with you, she’s over the income limit for Medicaid health insurance.
Basic rule of thumb is that she has to make the same or less than the poverty level which is $12,164, so she is close. I would put an application in, you have nothing to lose.
Gone online and do a search under: Florida Medicaid.gov Each state has different Medicaid requirements. Are you using her money (from SS) to pay for caregiver, etc ?
Have you checked with the Area Agency on Aging for your county? It might be good to start with getting a needs assessment for her and see what is recommended for her and what is available. Here is the website for Broward County:

The phone number is (954) 745-9779. This number is available for what they say is a "one-stop shop" for elder services Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
I hope you find some helpful information. Good luck!
I tried the Allegiance for the elderly here in Broward, they asked some basic information and put her on a waiting list. That was a year ago. I will try this number and see. Thank you 😊
