How can I get help with modifications to my mother in laws home? Example: safety bars, rails (porch/steps)?

Really need railing entering and exiting doors.

In our state (Ohio) we have a few agencies that claim to help Seniors. One is Direction Home and the other is Passport. I know you have to be on Medicaid to qualify for Direction Home and probably for Passport as well. I originally found these agencies by google searching “help for seniors in Ohio”.

APS does more than investigate abuse and neglect. They have caseworkers who will come to her home and evaluate her needs. They will help you find agencies. You can also call 211, which is United Way.

It takes work and research to find help, but with patience, you may be successful. Good luck.

You may want to contact the city where she lives, some have home modification programs for low income seniors.
