She was traumatized this morning because she slid to floor mid transfer from commode to reclyner. Hospice said to call 911 for non-emergency lift assistance. This was one of my mothers worst fears. Tonight will be first time in diaper so in the morning I can just get her a bed pan. Her blood pressure is very low in the morning. She has very swollen legs due to 6 years ovarian cancer, now her mobility is gone. We are so sad and frustrated, hoyer lift impossible, small room and carpet, plus weight from edema. No bm for 4 days, nurse will return tomorrow for help with that. I dread needing to move her to nursing facility. I pay to be able to transfer to bed later.
Does anyone have good tips on use of bed pan, we have not used it yet. Everyday more loss of ability, more increase in dispair. I want to keep her here in my home as we planned.

ask hospice to send a nurse daily, also ask for a aide to come and assist with bathing. They can teach you methods that will be easy for you and Mom. Basically you cut the sides of the diaper, then using the pad...roll mom carefully on her side. While the aide holds her in place with the pad.... Put a new pad and diaper rolled up together under her. Clean her the best you can then roll her back into the new pad... hold her gently while the aide on the other side finishes cleaning and remove the soiled diaper and pad.
in the final week, my Mom had an aide come every day. Bath in the bed was easy with one person holding her like the procedure above.
