Dublingercare Asked June 2019

Since my mam has been in intensive care with kidney failure she had to have dialysis. Her hair is so dry and brittle. What can I do?

Mam always had lovely curly hair. But now it's just dry and brittle and I can't do anything with it. Has anyone a suggestion on what to do? She won't wear a wig or hat. This is getting her down when she looks in the mirror. Also, will this get better? She has been I'll since St Stephens day 2018. Six months ago. Thanks. Xxx

I would also suggest kolesterol.

The product I used was a different brand, however. Queen Helene Cholesterol Hair Conditioning Creme.

I used this many years ago after I had a really bad perm. What can I say - it was the ‘80’s! My hair was burnt so badly I looked like a cross between a lump of moss and a Brillo pad. I am certain my hair would have all broken off, if not for this product.

Obviously, it’s been around forever and it’s amazingly inexpensive. You can get a tub of 15 oz. for between $5 - $8. You can typically find it easily at stores like Walmart and chain drugstores, as well as on-line.

Unless it’s changed much in the
past several years, know that it
doesnt come in fancy packaging and the smell is average- nothing fancy about the product itself either.

However - it will do the job. That and a low price makes it worth checking out.

Maybe she needs an oil treatment. Call a hairdresser and see what she suggests.

I haven't tried this myself so I can't vouch for it, but there was a beauty columnist in one of the main dailies recently raving about how brilliant silk pure turbans are for pampering your hair overnight. You pop them on, they're very comfortable so they don't disturb your sleep, and then in the morning your hair a) isn't messed up and tangled and b) is sort of polished, I suppose?

Anyway, the type she was sent to try was dizzyingly expensive, but there are other brands. I'd better not name names here, it's advertising, so I'll send you a private message instead.
