Paying for a lift chair?

I think that spending time to find the right fit and keeping an eye on sales will help you get one that is reasonably priced.

Call Medicare and find out how much if any they will pay and what is the criteria. Having to shop at a medical supply store guarantees that you will pay more, even if Medicare kicks in you will be out more money than if you shop around.

Medicare would not pay for my mother's lift chair. I recommend scouring the "for sale", online community sales pages, and thrift stores for a used lift chair. Found a near-new lift chair for Mom and it was $150.

We paid out of pocket at a furniture store. The medical supply place was very frank with us and said there were only a few chairs Medicare approved and we'd still pay a lot. They said we could get a better one at a furniture store, at full price, for the amount we'd pay out of pocket after Medicare paid its measly share. My husband is tall so we shopped around and he tried out a lot of chairs

I helped an acquaintance order one from the medical equipment store with a doctor's prescription. The store supposedly sent in the information and Medicare was supposed to reimburse part of it... we never saw a penny. There was too much going on and no one had time to follow up. I hope your experience is better!

In my state if you have Medicaid Waiver they will cover it.

Must have an order from a Dr. & Medicare only pays for the lift part. Will still cost you quite a few hundred. My mom ended up getting one from someone else so we didn’t follow through with a new one.

I can only share our own experience, but others may have had more success than we did. My husband was already on Medicare and a supplement when our doctor wrote an order for a lift chair for him a few years ago. I also purchased one for my mother with a doctor’s order as well. Bottom line was the Medicare covered nothing for either chair. Each cost nearly $800. The person at the Durable Medical stores I purchased both at (2 different stores) said they don’t deal with filing with Medicare for these chairs and their experience is that Medicare covers nothing or not much.

I would suggest you search out a used one. I’ve seen them on Facebook Marketplace for 1/2 the cost of a new one.
