Grandma tends to pee after I take her old diaper off and before I get the new one on. That tends to make a mess. I think she's holding it and finally goes when her diaper is off since she doesn't want to pee in her pants. Looking for tips to get her to pee in her diaper. I thought I would try partially taking off the diaper. She lies on her side when I do this so I would undo the top part of the diaper and wait a bit to see if she pees before changing it. Any other ideas gratefully welcomed.

People on the forum have mentioned that hospice provided a hoyer lift, and they do have slings specially designed for toileting. It would be beneficial to her to get up and out of bed and into a chair/wheelchair as well, not to mention easier on you.
I'm convinced she's holding it. She doesn't want to pee in her pants so she waits for them to be off before peeing. She's done this for herself in bed. She pulls her shorts and diaper down and pees on the pad. Today, I had to switch out her diaper because of LP. There was no pee in it at all even though she'd been wearing it for hours. 5 seconds after the diaper was off she let out the mother of all pees. It was such a big puddle that the pad couldn't soak it all. I had to paper towel off much of it. I'm hip to this now so I pulled her shorts down to her knees before taking off the diaper. It makes it much hard to pull back up but burning through a pair or two of shorts a day is getting pricey.

If she is bed bound then maybe it would be easier to have her wearing a gown or a wrap skirt, or you could modify her shorts/pants so that the side seams open with velcro - although I can't see any reason not to just leave her in her diaper.
