What is the cost of a "live in" private aide in the state of CT?

My SIL was living in a an assisted living facility in CT. She became ill and was in the hospital for 5 weeks. She has now been in a rehab for 2 months and is ready to come home. She has become bed bound due to multiple health issues, mainly kidney failure. She is very weak and slowly improving ( or not- messages are mixed) She goes to dialysis by ambulance 3 times a week. The rehab states she will need 24/7 help for awhile and maybe decreasing as she gets stronger.
I have found a wonderful old family friend/ home health aide who wants to be a live in for my SIL. I am in Florida ( taking care of my Dad) and need help knowing what is the fair pay to a "live in" aide in CT. Thanks for any help in advance.

I typed "live in companion Connecticut" and two pay comparison sites suggested salary ranges of $18.6-48.2K and $21.4-31.9K.

Which is quite a range!

It would show proper respect for your friend's professionalism to treat this as a professional negotiation. If you look up a few agencies, you will see that they provide job and person specifications for their "companion" or "live-in aide" vacancies. Pinch one of these, and tick off a) your SIL's requirements and b) your friend's qualifications and experience. Then you can also look at the benefits and conditions offered to candidates, and use that as a template too.

It is also important to look ahead. As you are getting mixed messages, you're going to want the rehab team and your SIL's doctor to do better than that - you need good enough information for a proper care plan, both for the HHA's guidance and so that you can cover things like vacations and back up.

What are her duties? Will the aide be required to be present and ready to help everyday of every week during all her waking hours, and be on call when she's asleep? Or will there be a pre-determined working hours and off hours during which she can leave and do what she wants?

Where I am, I've heard of arrangements where the aide comes during the day only, no weekends, and gets paid around $2,000/month. Light duties. That comes out to about $500/week. I thought that was on the cheap side.

Roughly $25/hr (give or take a few).
