What is the criteria for receiving assistance from Council on Aging?

We're having difficulty affording transportation to and from doctor's office appointments. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

Council on Aging will send someone to your home for an interview. It’s a lot of questions. Then, you wait. I had to keep calling back. In my area, there was a waiting list and I was told that when someone moves or dies we would receive help.

I cook all meals so I didn’t need that but they will provide meals. I take mom to doctor so I didn’t need that either.

I asked for help with bathing.
I received help every other week for bathing. I do the week in between.

I had to keep calling back. For over a year I called back. So, if you have a waiting list in your area for in home care it’s going to be awhile. As far as transportation I am not sure. I do see their buses rolling around town all the time. They stay busy helping seniors. Best wishes to you.

Even though I am from NJ, I know ur area and I would think u would have no problem getting help. Call your County Office of Aging. They may have a Senior bus that can take u to Doctor appts and even shopping. There maybe a small fee. If you receive Medicaid for your health insurance, they provide transportation. In my area, Redcross had volunteers that would drive you.

Also get the number for your areas transportation department, you can get reduced rate rides based on need, but it is a form that they mail to you and you mail back. At least in AZ. My dad qualified for 2.00 rides.

Call and have Area Agency on Aging do needs assessment. This will include an evaluation of their finances to determine what they are able to pay. Most of the services are on a sliding scale fee system.

Yes, they may qualify to have county ride services.
