How can I get back into the workforce?

My mom seems to think (and now her sister) that I need to go on disability and though my health is poor, I'm trying to look for jobs on line and jobs I can do instead of throwing in the towel and giving up completely. I'm getting help for my depression and stress, but the environment at home is all gloom and doom, I think if I could unhinge from it I could thrive again.

Instead of encouraging me they want me to do it so I don't have the stress of not being able to find anything. And probably get my independence back.

The severe enmeshment keeps going on and on.

It's a matter of 'waiting' everything is 'just wait' but it is part of her (and mine) codepence dance.

Maybe you should apply at a temporary agency. They have all types of jobs, full and part time, temporary and temp leading to permanent. You could find out where your skills lie and maybe find something you enjoy doing. Take a state civil service test in an area where you are qualified (office work, accounting, etc.). States don't flinch at hiring older people - they appreciate the experience and knowledge, plus they can't discriminate.

I've been applying to local places receptionist, clerical type work. I would love to do some solo work, data entry where I have little contact with people. Working from home might be an option.
I have worked retail before and don't think I'm up for that right now. Thank you for the suggestions and I have looked into govt jobs. state, etc. I have skills but they are slipping away.

In a week or two there will be LOTS of places looking to hire as college students and high school students start back to school.
Apply at places like Bed Bath and Beyond, they always seem to be hiring as does Target.
If you need to a Non Credit or a Certificate course at the local Community College might give you an advantage. Take a CNA course if you want to work as a Caregiver (although if you are caring for someone or just dealing with people at home this might not be a good option) A course in CPR might help when you fill out applications and it comes to other certificates or qualifications you have.
Take what you enjoy doing and look for work that involves that.

I'm game for that. Just dealing with this anxiety. I have always managed to get back into the grove somehow, but this last year has knocked the wind out of my sails, so to speak.
I don't mind doing clerical medical work as I have experience in that area and love it, but not that interested in the cna part. I could be a caregiver but Mom still lives with me. But you are right about getting the cpr certificate that is helpful in these days and time no matter what. And I keep thinking I should learn Spanish as that is an asset as well in my area.
I just need a push!!

What kind of work would you like to do? What kind of work CAN you do?
It seems to me with this ongoing caregiving you have been doing that you would be suited to that, with perhaps starting VERY SLOWLY. Perhaps an hour at a time.

I don't know your history, cannot remember your other postings, but do get a few ideas from THIS post.

What about this? There are in your community I would bet either Senior Centers, Churches, even Groceries where there is a bulletin board for someone to post. What about a post that you are available to do some respite care, some senior "sitting" while people go about tasks they need to accomplish. On this forum we see so many who would just do anything for someone to caregive while they are doing things they must, or simply getting time to have lunch with a friend. You could consider placing an add in your local paper.

Do consider becoming bonded if you consider this. In San Francisco even our DOG WALKERS get bonded, because they have access to homes when the homeowner is not there. You know how the elderly with memory problems are always convinced that someone is stealing from them. Often people today wire their homes with cameras 24/7, and that can be one reason to do so.

Try to think out of the box. Do you see gardens in need of care and do you enjoy gardening. A note offering gardening by the hour for a certain price in the mailbox may work.
Anyway, until you get some confidence and your feet under you do things that you show up for once, and only twice if you enjoy it.
Wishing you good luck moving forward. It is called "getting out of the house" at the least, and it could earn a few dollars as well.

Yes, I do need to get that confidence back. Getting out out of the house and on some type of schedule elsewhere. My goal. I do still have goals!! Thank you.
