Has anyone ever seen someone with dementia go from being sad and depressed to suddenly happy and laughing and childlike behavior?

Yup! Just gotta roll with it.

Yes. My mother. Once in permanent care and as her illness progressed she became more and more the person she used to be. A person I never saw. The staff loved her

My mother entered full time care at 89 and lived 5 1/2 comfortable, rewarding years until she passed peacefully at 95.
She too was loved by the residence staff, enjoyed their jokes (and ethnic lunches- my chubby geriatric Irish mother always knew when some yummy Haitian or Spanish or Chinese food rolled through the elevator doors and never hesitated to ask for HER share, causing many sweet underfed CNAs to supplement THEIR diminished lunches with the basement candy machine), and never missed a sing-along or party.
A good care center is a haven and a Blessing!

yes...happens with the lady i care for all the time....she starts to think about her husband before he died or thinks about when her children use to visit, you know the good ole days, then i ask her why shes sad and its like she tries to answer but already forgot..then we just talk about something else.its very easy to redirect them because the memory is so short.her moods can change in a second.
