Any reccomendations for a tall safety gate for top of staircase?

I am particularly concerned that my husband will fall down the stairs as his visual impairment increases from PCA.

Currently he is in the mild stage, but he will undoubtedly have increasing visual difficulty so I want to be prepared.

Looking online I have found the UK offers good looking, sturdy, tall, wooden stairgates - has anyone seen any similar ones offered in the US?

An accordian style of locking gate might work. similar to the ones that some businesses use.
Be sure to have it installed by a carpenter.

I agree with C Willie. If ur going to use a gate, make sure its anchored in the wall. Those pressure ones don't always fit, they can fall over if pushed on hard enough. I have had a toddler do it.

I've got to say that I'm not a fan of portable gates at the top of stairs, I'd much rather see a half door or gate securely installed by a good carpenter, and always opening away from the stairs because too many people have fallen when a door or gate fails to latch properly. It's much easier to repair screw holes than broken bones.
