I am a part time caregiver for my Mom. Is it possible to get paid as a caregiver?

If your mother cannot afford to pay you then....every state has at least one Medicaid program that pays caregivers. There are a couple states will not pay a family member or a member of the same household, or POA or representative payee.

your state Medicaid program does pay family caregivers using a waiver system. If your mom qualifies than she can either hire you directly or you can try to get hired by a home health agency & assigned to your mom.

This is probably in the top three of questions we get here on the forum. Unfortunately, the short answer is probably not unless your Mom can afford to pay you out of her own finances. In that case, you’d need to have a legal Caregiver Agreement drawn up and signed by both of you. When I researched “outside” opportunities for paid caregiving, I found out I’d be eligible for $40 a week for 24/7 care of my husband. I have heard, though, that in some states, of a person is on Medicaid, there might be a chance of getting paid. But even in that case, it isn’t much. And keep in mind, there is no retirement fund or health insurance unless you open those accounts and pay for them on your own.
