How to get aunty to go to care home?

gladimhere Sep 2019
Your profile is not completed. I see you asked this same question in June without help but asking for more information.

Why do you think aunt needs to be in care? Does her family agree? Are you living in her home? She in yours? Does she live alone? Are you currently caring for her? What are her medical issues? What does her doctor recommend? Do you have limitations that make it difficult to care for her?

Does anyone have her durable Power of Attorney?
Does anyone know if she has the funds to pay for a facility, even if she went voluntarily?
More info needed please.

As Barb said, we do need more information. A lot of us have been in the situation of having an older relative insisting on staying at home even though it is clear that he or she needs more care than is available there. I'm guessing maybe that's the situation with your aunt? Assuming she is mentally competent, she is entitled to make her own decisions even if she is making bad ones, so you really can't force her to move.

Unfortunately you may be in the situation of waiting for something bad to happen -- a bad fall, a heart attack, a stroke, etc. -- that lands her in the hospital and eventually forces a change in her living situation. A number of us have been there and it's scary. You know the bad thing is bound to come, you're hoping it isn't too bad, and there just isn't much of anything you can do but wait and see.

You really need to tell us a bit more about your situation to get any useful advice.
