Is there compensation for a family caregiver that is not paid by parent?
I work at home as a transcriptionist but have not been able to work continuously due to my dad's growing needs. He won't pay for a private caregiver so I'm it. Is there any compensation for this from the state of MA or whatever?
valleri, see if your Dad can qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare]. Medicaid is taxpayer funded. Most States offer some type of payment program, each State is different. Usually it is minimum wage for a few hours each week. Some States offer more, some less.
You mentioned your Dad won't pay for a private caregiver... does that mean he cannot budget for the expense or does that mean he refuses to use his money for his care? If the latter, your Dad may not qualify for Medicaid if he has a certain amount of funds in the bank, etc. Anyway, it is worth a telephone call to the State.
