My sibs and I just moved my parents back to state after years of living away. My father is thrilled, my mother resisted the move. Advice?

Now is angry bitter and sometimes violent. Worried about dementia. Does she just need time to adjust or is this something to look into? She’s never been a violent person.

She needs a psychological evaluation. Is she a danger to herself or others? If so, dial 911 to have her commited for an evaluation.

Ditto to what Ahmijoy suggested. If your mom is resistant to having a cognitive test, offer to take her to get checked for UTI. While there, slip the doc a note to give her a cognitive test (they will do this for you). Also if at all possible, have your mom fill out the HIPAA form so that you will legally be able to exchange information between you and her doctor. Hope you can make progress and get answers. Let us know how it goes if you can.

Any sudden change for the worse in behavior should be reported to her doctor. Does she have one now? Violence is never acceptable and she could injure herself or someone else. People with dementia do not appreciate change and can react the way your mother is. It could also be a urinary tract infection. Either way, she needs to see a doctor for evaluation and treatment ASAP.

Hi. What does your Dad have to offer regarding your Mom’s mental state prior to the move? Did he notice any changes?
