Senior housing rent ripoff. Any suggestions?

We moved into an indapendant living, home Jan, 28 2919. And paid the rent from that day forward. Our lease was to start 1-1-19, but they didnt have time to bother to clean, paint, and put in the new toilets. So they asked us to not move in for 3 more weeks, Now months later, hubby has passed they are demanding rent for the full month of Jan 2019. Due to their delaying our move I had to pay his other nursing home another $4000. Any suggestions please.
