An elder law attorney in your state can explain the Medicaid programs that can pay for care in your Mom's home. If you don't qualify as a caregiver host under your state's program, you mom could qualify for a program that pays other caregivers to come into the home, allowing you some time off from the duties. Your mom's monthly income, and her need for care, determine eligibility.

If your mom is a veteran who served during time of war, or was married to a veteran who served during time of war, she can get reimbursement for care expenses with a VA Aid & Attendance pension. The hours that you provide care services every month can qualify as reimbursable Aid & Attendance expenses. The calculation factors in your mom's income with how much she has to spend on medical expenses and care to determine whether she can get a portion of or the full monthly pension amount. ($1,258 during 2019).
