I also think that everyone that wants to help decorate it should be allowed to help. Making paper chains, popcorn strings or even cranberry strings would bring back happier times for so many people. I am big on edible ornaments when children or seniors are involved, how fun to eat the cookies and popcorn and candies as the urge strikes. To me that is what it is about, having fun and creating memories and remembering. Engaging with the people we share our lives and homes with.
I would encourage visiting family to bring in homemade goodies that can be used to decorate the tree, ask for donations of plastic needles and thin ribbon, then anything can be strung and hung.
It can be a wonderful time for those that you are caring for. They are from a time when it was simple, about gathering with those we love and sharing a meal and time. Happy music and bright cheerful spirits are always a good thing.
I love the idea of food ornaments, just abit worried that they might see all ornaments as food. Love the idea of getting family members involved in helping to decorate. This could be the answer to my dilemma. 😊
Is there a place for it. Or could it become a fall hazard? Would residents want to eat or play with ornaments? Would they fight over ornaments? I can see potential problems. Could it possible cause agitation by some?
I would find it lovely and would hope that the celebrations of other faiths are observed as well. I am an atheist, but still have this christmas tree each year, and wonder if the whole celebration has not morphed into something more for many than "The birth of the Christ Child" and the world wild celebrations that go along with that. At my brother's assisted living they have many pastors and rabbi's and religious leaders come to the main lodge to speak, to lead celebrations. I cannot imagine how this wouldn't be a good thing. But I am certain others would disagree. I do think that keeping religion out of Governmental areas is a good thing all the way around. Am certain you will meet a variety of opinion on this. How do you, yourself, feel about it?
