Husband with dementia, how do I get him to brush teeth?

Trying to get him to brush and or use mouth wash, but, he will swallow both.

I tell him before, and during not to swallow but to spit out.

I got children's toothpaste and rinse so I think that might be better but they both say do not swallow.

Long before toothpaste came in a tube, one would use baking soda to clean their teeth. It may be safer to use if a person tends to swallow instead of spitting out. He may not even try to swallow it as it doesn't have a candy flavor.

There are now pros and cons for this product, such as too much brushing can damage the enamel. Check on the Internet "baking soda for brushing teeth".

Regarding the candy flavoring of toothpaste such as mint, I recently bought Burt's Bees Mint toothpaste, and I enjoy using it as the mint is soooo very mild. I still had some regular named brand toothpaste left over so I decided to try to use up the tube. Oh my gosh, that toothpaste was now so very sugary tasting I tossed it out.

Please research before you use colloidal silver. The NIH does not support the use of it.

Have him use colloidal silver instead.

it is ok if he swallows a cap full. And..it is antibacterial too.
