My sister's Social Security just increased from 800 to 2025 does the nh take all of the Social Security check plus still charge Medicaid?

Are you paying the nursing home directly or is her SS check being sent to the NH as the payee? If it’s being sent as the payee you probably don’t have to do anything...it’s coming out of one government pocket and going into another. BUT if you/she was getting the $800 check and then you paying the NH, and now she’s got a new SS check for $2025, then you need to call her Medicaid caseworker and tell Medicaid that her income increased. They will recalculate everything and tell the NH to charge you the new amount.

check will go to nursing home as patient’s share of cost. Medicaid wi pay the difference.

Her ex-husband passed away that’s how the Social Security increased. So basically she did not need to file for his since she is in a home

All of her your sisters income goes to the nursing home. Medicaid pays the remainder of the bill since her income is nowhere enough to pay for the nursing home. Are you aware of the monthly cost of a nursing home? Usually $8k minimum a month.

Moms was almost 10k and that is average in my area of NJ.

How did ur sisters SS increase this much? Did a spouse die? SS doesn't usually jump this much. And if it has I would question it.

If this amount is correct, you need to contact your sisters caseworker and tell them about the increase. Medicaid will adjust the amount the NH receives from them. The $2025 will now go to offset the cost of your sisters care. A small amount will continue to be deducted for her PNA acct.

Yes. But, it’s not a “plus” situation. The nursing home is paid by Medicaid and the social security money is paid to cover that bill.
