Since rehab is the topic here, does anyone know what happens if the patient is not progressing in rehab? What if the therapist don't see improvement? Can things come to a halt or will they make that decision at day 20? What if the patient is really trying and working hard, but, their body just isn't capable of what they are asking of it?
When my father stopped making 'progress', which is a Medicare requirement, then he was released from rehab. I think he only got thru about 10 days before he 'stopped making progress.' The PT/OT has to report to Medicare every other day, I believe it is, and report that the patient IS making satisfactory progress, otherwise they're done. Even if they're trying but their body isn't capable.
There is no minimum number of days in rehab. The 3 day rule you are citing is for the stay in an acute care hospital. once transferred directly from the acute care hospital to the rehab facility, the time limits are for the max length of stay...not minimum
All it takes is the three days and you are qualified. That is three days admitted as a patient. Being in observation is NOT included in the three day time period. Coverage is paid for in rehab.
