My mom does the same thing. I haven’t played along, because she eventually agrees it must’ve been a dream or is pretending that she thinks it’s a dream out of embarrassment. Some of her dreams have been bad memories induced and I don’t like for her to have those worries anymore. Yesterday she thought my daughter was a going to the academy awards. Not a bad dream at least!
Ill eventually have to play along more, but for now, she’s just so one foot in and one foot out of reality. :(
I'd agree with whatever your mother believes, unless it's a nightmare. Then you should try telling her it was just a bad dream and there is nothing to worry about.
Anne, since the person has Alzheimer's/dementia, just listen and agree. It is far better to do that then try to convince the person the dream wasn't real.
My mom, who lives with me now, has the same problem with believing her dreams are reality. I usually sit with her and we talk about her dream until she realizes it was just a dream. She also wakes up confused about why my deceased father never came home from work. It's the fear in her eyes and her desperation to find him that break my heart. I tell her he is safe and not to worry . After a few moments she realizes he has passed. Very sad to watch her go through the emotions as if she is just learning of his death. Sad.
Early on I would tell my Mom, "you dreamt that" She would say OK. Sometimes even as if it was a dream or real. TV, dreams and reality were all one and the same. My Mom was never addimate.
