Can a couple get a lady bird deed?

Do you have to be a widow or widower to give a lady bird deed to a daughter?

Not knowing what a “Lady Bird” deed is, I googled...

Of particular interest is the fact that only the following states allow lady bird deeds: Florida, Michigan, Texas, Vermont, and West Virginia.

toniduv - as I see you are in Michigan this is certainly an option for you. The article I read also said they are relatively inexpensive to do - even when using an attorney to draft and file the deed - which is the only route I’d take, if it were me.

Anyone can do a ladybird deed. Doesn’t have to be a widow or a daughter.

I would check with an elder law attorney because the laws can differ from state to state and a lawyer familiar with estates, trusts, Medicaid and the "look back" period will be reliable, not like opinions from a website when commenters don't know all the other specifics about your finances, surrounding issues and future plans. It would be money well spent.

Ladybird deeds protect a house from Medicaid. They can executed without affecting Medicaid eligibility
