How do you get equipment that is vital to your patient?

Bar to pull up on? He is paralyzed from the waist down due to MS. He needs a scooter to get around. He needs a scooter to get out. He can no longer get into a wheelchair. He needs PT. We are told it must go thru the care facility. That goes nowhere and he is getting worse.

I am confused at to where his is living.
If at home his doctor can "prescribe" all the equipment that is necessary.
If he is in a facility they may have some equipment that can/is used by all patients and some would need to be "ordered" by the doctor.
If his is Hospice eligible Hospice can also obtain the equipment necessary.
If by chance he is a Veteran the VA can also order equipment as well as Home aids.

A little more clarification might help a bit in getting better, more complete answers.

Your profile says he is living at home but u talk about a facility?

If he is at home and you have an aide then she needs to be doing all the dirty work. If u mean by agency a home care one, is this Medicaid or are u paying out of pocket?

I would talk to son's doctors to see if they can prescribe the equipment he needs. Then if he is on Medicaid, check with them to see if they will cover it.

But, until we know who this agency is, it will be hard to help you.

Does he have Medicare? Medicaid?

Has his doctor written scripts for the equipment?

Have to taken the scripts to a durable medical equipment supplier?

Who is telling you he must go to a facility? Do they mean to live, or for PT to learn to use the equipment?
