If it’s a social security check and it was for March, SS should have taken the check back. it’s been nearly a year since your mom died and received that check......if the check was for February, then she/you is entitled to keep that check and that’s why SS never took it back.
Call the Social Security office. You might need the death certificate besides any other relevant paperwork for her. Hopefully this issue being a year old will not create difficulties in resolving it. So sorry for your loss.

I should think the safest thing to do would be to contact whichever office was in charge of making the payments to your sister and ask them. Make sure you have all the relevant dates and reference numbers to hand when you call.
