Marialouse, the vast majority of grown children taking care of a parent do not get paid.... unless your parent can pay you from their savings. You would need to create an employment contract stating what are your chores, the number of hours, the hourly rate, and who will deal with the payroll taxes.
Or as 97yroldmom had mentioned, you could see if your Mom would qualify for Medicaid [which is different from Medicare]. Each State runs their own Medicaid programs. Thus hourly rates will vary from State to State. Don't be surprised if the pay is minimum wage for a few hours a week. Medicaid is a taxpayer funded program.
First stop is does mom have the funds To pay you? If not, then try community Medicaid for your state. You can try the Area Agency on Aging for services available to you and your mother.
