Compensation for caring for elderly father?

I’ve been assisting my 89 year old father for the past several years since my mother suddenly passed away 9 years ago. I would go over to the house every night after work & on weekends to help with minor things. But recently, My job of 15 years was eliminated & I’ve been able to help him do more. I basically handle all of his finances, daily errands, grocery shop, laundry, etc. I’m very blessed to be able to do this, but I need to pay my bills. Is there anything out there where I could be compensated for doing this?

The government (medicaid) won’t pay you for the type of work you describe in your post. Your dad will have to pay you to do all of that.

ktmae71, as DollyMe said, your dad can pay you, but if he does that then you it would be wise to have a personal care agreement (PCA) signed and notarized by both of you. Properly prepared PCAs help prevent misunderstandings and disqualification from Medicaid assistance should that be needed by your dad in the future. Unless your father can afford to pay you, it would be to your advantage to find another paying job. You must consider what your future will look like in your retirement years if you dont have a paying job now. If any funds are available thru government assistance, its very few hours and minimal $$...sad, buts thats the way it is. It for sure wouldnt be enough to survive and pay your bills....

He can pay you.

Honestly, it would be better to get yourself a new job, keep your career moving along, and plan for your future, keep investing for your retirement.

As far as being paid by the government, even if you can figure out how to do this, the pay level would be so low, that you will not be able to pay your bills anyway.
