Why do so many on this forum speak "acronym-ese" (acronyms)?

Newcomers aren't familiar with the acronyms used. It's fine for the veterans on this site but frustrating for us rookies. Just saying. Gary

Thank you for asking this question, Gary. I've been winging it.

Grober, I think use of acronyms has spread way beyond this forum, in part b/c people are communicating less in person and more by texting and/or emailing.  I'm reading elsewhere that some folks acknowledge their cursive writing has deteriorated b/c they're not writing by hand; again, they're texting, and abbreviating more and more to save time so they can text more and more.

Sadly, the art of letter writing and cards may be fading as well.

Sorry, but when using a tablet or a phone it is so much nicer that the common words we use on the forum can be abbreviated. I have been here a long time and still need to look some up.

I'm an old timer and I sometimes get stymied by acronyms I haven't come across before too. There are very few I haven't been able to figure out simply by context or by searching the web - the more common ones are in use across many social media platforms and easily found.
