My grandma wants to speak but can't. Any advice?

We are caring for my great grandma who's 89 years old, she has vascular dementia she was diagnosed with this 2.5 years ago. The last few day have been fairly bad, yesterday she was just completely blank. She couldn't drink or eat she choked while she tried to take her tablets (anti-biotics for current chest infection) today she is much worse. She's too weak to get out of bed and she can't talk it's like she wants to but she can't. Is this normal? I don't know what to expect here. Any advice would be appreciated

Is Grandma on hospice yet? I'd urge your family to discuss this with a hospice provider who can make her comfortable and not scared. My mthr is at the end of dementia and has not been able to speak for months, not days. I know she is trapped inside and unable to express herself. I would spare your grandmother such a horrible existence if I could and let her pass while she's been reasonably well, not after a year or so of not walking and almost as long not speaking. Praying for you all.🙏

Thank you for sharing, my husband has vascular dementia, his is mild and slow progression.

Some suggestions, would be perhaps a picture board with basic needs. Bathroom, water, ect.

She may be experiencing anxiousness. I love foot message therapy, it seems to be relaxing and beneficial. Reassure her that everyone is good and she is safe and you are by her side and happy to be there with her. Although they at times cannot communicate, they can always hear whats going on. Does she use oxygen support? Sometimes a little boost is beneficial during this time.

Hope this helps and please receive my warm embrace.

I’m so sorry. It is heartbreaking. If it is okay with you I will say a prayer for her. All you can do is sit tight and hope for the best.

The doctor is coming out asap. My mum and grandma are with her now, I'm just scared that something is going to happen. She's just so weak, she can't hold her sipppy cup she's trying so hard to speak but she just can't. It's heart breaking. I think I just come here to talk to someone.
