My husband was in a memory care facility and 3 months ago I bought him a specialized lift recliner. He has since been moved to a Extended Senior Care Home. I paid $1800 for his recliner and would love for him to be able to use it but I wouldn’t put that smell in no ones place. His new home is fresh and they keep him and the home immaculate. However his chair has been urinated in by multiple residents from the previous facility. Any suggestions on how to clean it or is it a total loss?

My idea would be to soak the area with straight vinegar. Like a spray bottle and let it sit for a while so it gets into the padding. Then use a wet dry vac to suck the vinegar up. Then sit it out on a nice Sunny day to dry thoroughly. The vinegar smell will dissipate.
Years ago I had pads that you put on top of a crib sheet that was felt on both sides and rubber in the middle. So instead of changing the sheet everytime the baby had an accident you changed the pad, it was waterproof. I still had a large one. I tucked into the seat of Moms chair just in case. Mom had something for Dad. Had a waterproof side, the other was materal. They now have chair and couch covers for animals. If you can get the smell out (may take a few times) I would purchase something for the seat of the chair.
