Do we caregivers adhere to the lock down at ALFs?

My husband’s facility is also on lockdown, as is most of the country. I accept this and am grateful to them for taking these precautions. Allowing family members to come in to “protect” their loved ones is unreasonable and not safe for the residents. People simply can’t be trusted. The early stages of this virus mimic the symptoms of a simple cold. In a person’s zeal to “be there” for their loved one, they could pass along the virus that, in my husband’s situation, would kill him.

I work in a daycare and currently have at least two children who are, quite frankly, sick in my room. Not wanting to lose a day’s pay and with no consideration for the daycare staff, the parents send them anyway. it’s this sort of behavior that passes along not only the Coronavirus, but other life-threatening illnesses as well.

We're all on lockdown in my area as well. I am hopeful that receptionists and other staff members in these places are not being given a hard time. It's not their fault. They are just enforcing the rules - which are in place for a reason. In fact, one facility near me will not even allow a POA to drop off a check at the front desk. They are requesting payments be mailed in.

THE FACTS ARE CLEAR. They've been clear for months. It's not media frenzy. It's just taken this long for our federal government here in the US to finally accept them. Hopes and prayers do not fight viruses. Action does.

DO NOT endanger your loved ones and the loved ones of others by breaking the lock down. As the famous Seattle case has shown, once it starts in a nursing home it spreads quickly and widely. They are too vulnerable and too crammed together for it not to.
