Does your friend have family who are closer to the situation? What do they think? Could they (or you) talk to the hospice nurse and ask her if there is a problem? Yes, it could be her first job in hospice. Or your friend might not understand the purpose of hospice, and ask frequently about when she will get better – either of which would be difficult to deal with in hospice. If you can, get the problem checked out a bit more before you just ‘sack’ the nurse.
I read this as the Nurse isn't comfortable or cannot communicate well. Maybe its her first client. If Mom is not comfortable with her, ask for another Nurse. Your Mom should have someone who she likes.
Are you saying your friend is having difficulty communicating with her hospice nurse? Is your friend able to speak for herself? Is there a family member dealing with the hospice staff? It’s not clear what the situation is. If you are her advocate then perhaps you should contact the hospice and explain what you are observing. Sorry if I misunderstood the issue.
