I think we are running out of beds because they now going to nursing facility under quarantine. How about using a few of them cruise ships that helped.
Shell, were these people with medical training who couldn't find jobs graduates of good schools, or correspondence schools or something like that? Were they CNAs, RNs?
There are so many people with medical training that either could not find a job after schooling (market over flooded) or worked in the field for a few yrs and could not make a living!
We have several family members who are in healthcare. They are all just hoping they can stay healthy because even an ordinary cold is going to take them out of the hospitals where they’re so needed. Not enough staff, too much need.
The ship in NY is to care for patients who do not have coronavirus, in order to free up hospital space for Covid-19 patients. A second naval hospital ship will be deployed somewhere on the West Coast. Or so said the news report I listened to an hour ago.
"Just ...send in more medical personnel and necessary supplies."
Are you aware that medical personnel are already stretched thin and working extra hours? Where would the extras to send in be found? I understand that even the agencies supplying temporary nurses are having trouble finding help; from what I've read, there's a shortage of nurses, especially now.
However, this is where the military can be brought in and address the problems.
"Necessary supplies" - unfortunately some supplies are close to being out of stock, if not already there.
um.....there are ships already stranded at sea unable to dock. And where will the medical staff come from? No this is terrible idea that hasn’t been thought out.
"Just"? I think it's a little more involved than a bed. Have you been in a hospital as a patient lately? My son has. There is electronic communications, computers, machines, central communication systems, supplies for each bed. It's a last resort. Not hygienic, either. The beds aren't adjustable, not enough electrical outlets in each room...on and on.

Just my 2 cents!
Maybe other military hospital ships are going to other port cities, I don't know.
So it's not a terrible idea, just the start of a good one.
And maybe cruise ships could be used to quarantine people who test positive but don't have serious symptoms? If they can't self-isolate.

If only the solutions were that simple....
