What do I do? We told my mother in law to be we were going to get married and now she is saying that I am marrying her!

My fiance says I should go along with it as she is terminal and I don't want to hurt her feelings but it doesn't feel right. I have known her a very long time and she has been like a mother to me. I thank God for her and the time she has been with us.
